Strengthening the Caring Community

A Volunteering Screening Program from the Archdiocese of Toronto

Did you know that in our Sacred Heart Faith Community, we have over 100 volunteers who are called to “serve” in various ministries. Together, we are committed to love of neighbour expressed through joyful, selfless giving of our gifts of time and talents.

In St. Luke’s gospel Jesus is portrayed ”as one who serves (22:27). In St. Mark’s gospel, He says of Himself “For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve…” (10:45). How do we respond? The answer is simple; live our lives as God intended, by following Jesus on His way by;

. serving God by serving others
. giving of our time and talents in service to the whole community . discipleship
. recognizing the vitality of fresh ideas and acknowledging that our community all have different strengths and wisdom learned from their various life experiences and valuing and respecting all gifts of time and talents
Before Jesus left his apostles, He instructed them with one great commandment:

“Love one another; as I have loved you, you also must love one another. By this love you have for one another, everyone will know that you are my disciples.” (John 13:34-35)
